Atmore police found crack cocaine in a vehicle during a traffic stop on Alabama 21 Wednesday night, said 21st Judicial Drug Task Force Agent Scott Walden.

Laketrick Lawson, 34, of Atmore, was arrested after a search of his gray Chevrolet Impala yielded 1.5 ounces of crack cocaine and $725 in cash, Walden said.

Lawson was charged with possession of a controlled substance and transported to the Escambia County jail in Brewton. There was no bond information on Lawson, as of Thursday evening.

Lawson was stopped near the Interstate 65 on-ramp, after authorities received a tip of a vehicle carrying narcotics, Walden said. He added that the tipster alerted police that there was a pound of marijuana and a passenger in the vehicle. Neither the marijuana, nor a passenger was found during the search, Walden said.

Walden said police were suspicious that the drugs were part of a “drop” at Fountain Correctional Facility, but authorities have found nothing to support that. A “drop” is when a citizen leaves contraband items behind for an inmate to pick up at a later time.

“We contacted the prison just in case a drop had been made,” Walden said. “There’s no evidence that a drop had been made.”
