Escambia Academy drops first game at South Choctaw

The Escambia Academy boys’ basketball team lost 47-35 Tuesday at South Choctaw Academy.

It was the first game of the year for the Cougars and the only game they will play until December, said coach Kevin Woods.

The Cougars shot 24 percent from the field in the loss. The game was tied at 24 at the half, but EA could only muster 11 second-half points.

“We didn’t play well the whole game,” Woods said.

Brett Helton led the team with 16 points, while Jacob Dean, Kevin Gumapac and Trae Lee each scored five points.

The junior varsity team beat South Choctaw 42-19.

Lee led the way with 10 points in the win, followed by Eli Godwin with eight.

EA will host Wilcox Academy on Monday, Dec. 2, with games beginning at 4 p.m.
