Now that volleyball season and the Thanksgiving holiday have come to an end, the Northview Lady Chiefs’ basketball team will look to start its season.

Coach Derek Marshman admits his team hasn’t had a lot of practice time since the start of the school year, but the team worked on its mental toughness during workouts this season.

“We pushed them mentally this summer,” Marshman said.

Marshman said the offense will run through junior E’Layzha Bates, who just finished volleyball season and has experience on an AAU basketball squad. Bates is a junior, who will get a lot of work in the wing, he said.

Danielle Steadham, a force on the volleyball team as well, will play forward on the basketball court.

These forwards will be joined by guards Lana Clayton, Angel Lathan and De’Asia Fountain.

The Lady Chiefs will open with a road trip, but will return to Bratt on Friday, Dec. 13 to take on Freeport at 5:15 p.m.
