YMCA’s Movie Night to assist ‘Toys for Tots’

The Atmore Area YMCA will be hosting a “Toys for Tots” movie night Friday, Dec. 13, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. The movie will be “The Polar Express.”

The admission for the movie night will be either a $10 donation, or a new, unopened toy valued at $10 or more. Donations will be accepted at the door on the night of the event.

Paul Chason, CEO of the Atmore Area YMCA, said that YMCA staff members are working hard with Toys for Tots coordinator Shinora Redmond-Montgomery and First Presbyterian Church director of youth services Jonathan Stephens, in order to help make the movie night an enjoyable event for the community.

Chason said that there will be other “themed” events that will be going on during the movie night, and it is possible that Santa Claus might stop by to pay a visit as well.

Chason added that he has asked for participation from the U.S. Marine Corps, who sponsors the “Toys for Tots” drive nationally. He said it is very likely there will be some active duty Marines as well as USMC veterans from local veterans’ organizations, and it will be a great way for the community to show their support and thanks for veterans.

There will be some chairs and tables available, but those who attend are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets.
