EA girls, boys beat rival SpartaPublished 3:13pm Thursday, December 12, 2013
Tuesday night, the Escambia Academy girls’ basketball team beat Sparta Academy, 52-45, to improve to 4-1 on the year.
Grayson Emmons led the team in scoring with 25 points, while Lacie Flowers added 11. Payton Snider netted seven points and Cat Sasser picked up six.
Snider led the team with 12 rebounds, while Allison Woods, Emmons and Sasser each grabbed eight rebounds.
Snider blocked three shots in the win, and Emmons dished out four assists.
Coach David Walker said his team shot well and that was a key in winning the game. The Lady Cougars hit 50 percent of their two-point shots and 33 percent from 3-point distance. However, Walker said the team still had too many turnovers.
EA takes on Morengo Academy at 3:30 p.m. Friday, before taking on Wilcox Academy later that evening as part of a tournament in Camden. It will be the Lady Cougars’ final game before Christmas break, Walker said.
The boys’ team also toppled Sparta, 53-44.
