The Escambia County High School boys’ basketball team lost 57-42 Thursday night to LeFlore High School, to fall to 6-6 on the year.

ECHS coach Earlando Courtney said his players aren’t executing on fundamentals and aren’t playing well.

“We have a bad situation going on,” Courtney said. “It’s very disappointing so far.”

Courtney said the team, which made it to the state semifinals a year ago, is not playing anywhere close to its potential. For example, the Blue Devils scored a total of eight points over the second and third quarters in Thursday’s game.

“We’re not following instructions,” Courtney said. “You can’t win like that.”

He said he has a few players, who try and work hard, but that this could be a “17-17 type of season” for ECHS.

The Blue Devils get another chance on Tuesday when they travel to take on Williamson. They beat Williamson earlier this season in a home opener in Atmore.
