The City of Atmore Utilities Board is warning residents to avoid an area where sewage has previously backed up during heavy rainfall.

According to a Dec. 23 press release by the board, severe rainwater in December resulted in the discharge of raw sewage at the manhole located at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Ridgley Street. Residents are encouraged to avoid any contact with spilled sewage when it is present, according to Wastewater Superintendent Kenny Smith.
