The Escambia County High School Blue Devils earned their first area win of the season Friday night, toppling UMS-Wright 71-67 on the road. ECHS returned home Saturday to face Blount, the No. 3 ranked team in Class 6A, falling by a 51-23 score to the visiting Leopards.

The Blue Devils moved to 12-10 overall, and 1-1 in Class 4A, Area 1 play.

Friday, ECHS jumped out to a nine-point lead early in the first quarter against the Bulldogs, and managed to hold off a late UMS-Wright rally to preserve the victory.

Jarvis Knight led the Blue Devils with 22 points, and Desmond Williams added 21. Jerome Webster added 10 points for ECHS.
Blake Admire had 22 points to lead the Bulldogs.

In Saturday’s game against Blount, ECHS fell behind 11-2 early in the first quarter, but battled back with a run to end the quarter down 11-7. However, the Leopards outscored ECHS in the second quarter to take a 23-12 lead at halftime.

Antonio Chapman scored 14 points to lead Blount, which improved to 16-2 for the season.

The Blue Devils stayed at home Monday to host Thomasville in a key area matchup, but that game was not completed by press time. ECHS will host Clarke County on Friday night.

In the girls’ games last weekend, ECHS lost 64-39 at UMS-Wright on
Friday, and fell 55-30 to Blount on Saturday.
