Escambia County High School could spend the next two years playing opponents in Class 5A, according to a realignment released Wednesday morning by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.

ECHS had been in Class 4A, but a move was necessary after the AHSAA decided to add a new “Class 7A” to the old six-classification system.

ECHS’s football team will compete in Class 5A, Region 1. Its opponents will be B.C. Rain, Faith Academy, Jackson, Saint Paul’s Episcopal, Vigor and Williamson. None of these teams were in ECHS’s region the last two years, and only Faith Academy was on the Blue Devils’ 2013 schedule.
