Lady Cougars win home gamePublished 7:29pm Tuesday, March 18, 2014
Escambia Academy’s Lady Cougars picked up a key win in a region contest Friday, as they defeated Fort Dale Academy, 13-2, in five innings.
EA coach Rebecca Murray said the win was a team effort.
“We had several players who had key hits for us,” she said. “Our seniors did a great job of leading the team today.”
Murray also said the Lady Cougars (2-1) played strong defense, especially at third base, where Reagan Hill made several key plays on line drives and hard-hit grounders. She also praised the play of eighth grader Victoria Sawyer, who stepped in to catch after an injury to EA’s normal starting catcher.
“We also had a great game on the mound from our pitcher, Jen Weaver,” Murray said.
Weaver allowed two runs (one earned), on six hits. She struck out one and walked two.
EA started the game with a bang, scoring seven runs as 11 batters came to the plate in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Cougars added three runs in the second and three runs in the fourth.
For the Lady Cougars, Lacie Flowers was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Trista Hill was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, and Sawyer was 2-for-2 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs.
Cat Sasser had a two-run double and scored a run, and Peyton Snider scored a run and had an RBI. Shyla O’Barr was 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Bell and Grayson Emmons scored one run each.
EA was scheduled to play at Monroe Academy on Tuesday, March 18.
