Charles Lewis Fuqua Sr.

Charles Lewis Fuqua Sr., 82, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014, at his residence.

He was born in Escambia County on March 19, 1932, to the late David Talmadge and Rachael Mae Belle Ware Fuqua. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, retiring from N.A.S. Pensacola as an Air Craft Mech. with more than 25 years of experience. He was also a member of Nokomis Baptist Church.

A brother, Julian Fuqua, preceded him in death.

Survivors are his wife, Doris Jones Fuqua of Walnut Hill, Fla.; one son, Charles Lewis (Cindy) Fuqua Jr. of Summerdale; two daughters, Deborah (Xavier) Ritchie of Pelham and Cathy (Glenn Dick) Varallo of Birmingham; one stepson, Lavon (Cindy) Ledkins of Foley; two step-daughters, Susan (Jim) Hamby of Elberta and Helen (Neil) Howard of Granite Falls, Wash.; one brother, Ronald (Linda) Fuqua of Brewton; two sisters, Wilma Lambert of Brewton and Virginia Waller of Dothan; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday April 16, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. James Hill officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Family received friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc., was in charge of all arrangements.
