Nokomis VFD gets $161K grant

On Friday, U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-Alabama) announced a series of grants that were awarded during the month of April for projects in Escambia, Washington and Clarke counties. Among those grants is $160,550 in funding for the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department.

The other grants were:

• $1.66 million in loan funds and $911,000 in grant funds for the Five Point Sewer System in Chatom.

• $38,998 in grant funds for the Millry Fire Department in Millry.

• $828,000 in loan funds and $377,000 in grant funds for Old Line Water Authority in Jackson.

“Our rural areas depend on support for municipal projects through
federal grants for upkeep and capital improvements,” Byrne said. “I’m proud to announce these grants in Washington, Clarke, and Escambia Counties that will support further growth and prosperity in these communities.

“I’ll continue working hard to ensure the rural areas in Alabama’s First Congressional District have a strong voice promoting their interests.”
