Kenny Smith, wastewater superintendent for West Escambia Utilities, said that severe rainwater has resulted in the discharge of raw sewage in portions of the city.

Residents are encouraged to avoid any contact with spilled sewage, particularly in the following areas:

• The manhole at Wilson Avenue and Ridgley Street.
• The manhole at Martin Luther King Avenue and Claiborne Street.
