Former Atmore resident killed in crash

A three-vehicle crash in Monroeville on Saturday night claimed two lives, including a former Atmore resident.

Douglas Chandler, 46, of Monroeville, was killed when the 2009 Chevy Aveo he was driving collided with two other vehicles, according to Sgt. Steve Jarrett, public information officer with the Alabama Department of Public Safety. One of the other drivers, Jane Strength, 67, of Frisco City, was also killed in the crash.

The wreck occurred at approximately 11:05 p.m. on U.S. Highway 84, about 11 miles west of Monroeville.

No other information was immediately available, as the Alabama State Troopers continues to investigate the crash.

Chandler is a native of Atmore. His father, the late Rev. Marcus Chandler, was the minister at First United Methodist Church for more than 20 years.

Douglas Chandler has two children, Tyler Chandler, 20, and Hannah Chandler, 18, both of Atmore.

Chandler’s family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 4 at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.
