Update: Contraband included drugs, weapon

Contraband items recovered at Atmore’s Holman Prison on Sunday, June 15, ranged from a machete to cell-phone chargers, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections (DOC).

On Sunday, Zandiaus Fagin and Trimeka Ellis of Mobile were arrested after throwing contraband items over the fence at Holman Prison. The contraband items were safely retrieved.

According to DOC spokesperson Kristi Gates, the items included:

• Four packages of a leafy green substance believed to be marijuana;

• Four touchscreen cell phones with chargers;

• A machete;

• Four white T-shirts;

• A roll of duct tape;

• Three rolls of clear plastic wrap;

• Additional cell phones and USB cables.

Fagin, 18, was charged with promoting contraband II, and Ellis, 37, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance. Both were later released on bond.

The Atmore Police Department and Poarch Tribal Police Department assisted Holman staff and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office during the incident.
