On the inside, Atmore’s new Walmart looks like any other store.

There are employees bustling about, stocking shelves and sweeping floors. Colorful merchandise fills the shelves, marked by price tags and signs proclaiming discounts. Shopping carts sit outside the doors lined up perfectly and glistening in the sunlight.

Of course, Atmore’s Walmart is still missing something rather important — the shoppers.

That’s because opening day is still several weeks away, but store manager Joe Ferguson recently invited media members to tour the inside of the 70,000-square-foot retail store and see the progress that has already been made.

Atmore’s new Walmart will officially open with a 7:30 a.m. ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 6. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We’re very excited about all the hard work that we’ve done these last few weeks to get everything ready,” Ferguson said. “I know that the shoppers are anxious to come, as well.”

The store is located off North Main Street, just south of Oak Hill Cemetery.
