The Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that the theme for the 2014 Twilight Christmas Parade will be “The Toys of Christmas.”

Participants are encouraged to have their floats utilize the theme, which is open to any toys — from classic teddy bears and dolls to modern robots and video games.

“We wanted to have a simple theme that gave people a lot of options to be creative,” said Sheryl Vickery, executive director of the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce. “I definitely look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.”

The chamber and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians are sponsors of the parade.

In addition, the chamber is also getting ready for the 11th annual “Taste of the South” event.

It will be held Thursday, Sept. 18, at Heritage Park, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets will be $10 for a taste of five samples.

Taste of the South is a special event where local restaurants and cooks offer samples of some of their best dishes, and the tasters judge their favorites. Anyone who wishes to offer food at Taste of the South is invited to sign up with the chamber, by calling (251) 368-3305.

“We’re looking forward to having a good crowd and a lot of good food,” Vickery said.

Tickets are currently available at the chamber office, located at 501 S. Pensacola Ave., and likely will also be available at participating restaurants.
