The eighth annual “Stomp the Yard” is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, from noon to 5 p.m. at Houston Avery Park in Atmore.

The event is designed to educate, entertain and encourage the young people of the community. Dr. Bernard Bishop Ministries, in association with Deliverance Ministry of Jesus Christ, Inc., is presenting.

“There will be lots of fun things for the youth to do, and they’ll be able to learn some things too,” Bishop said.

The special guest speaker is DJ Rodski, a radio personality from WBLX 92.9 FM in Mobile. Other featured artists throughout the day include psalmist Ruby Collins Ward, Jamel “Mello” Moore, Deliverance Ministry Angels of Praise, psalmist Dr. Felicia Bishop, youth drama teams and youth praise dancers.

Bishop said that DJ Rodski is a well-known celebrity in southern Alabama, and he has a message that will resonate with young people.

“Abstinence is one of his messages, and so is staying in school,” Bishop said. “He always talks to the kids about being obedient and respectful of their parents.
They’re going to be motivated that they can do anything and be anything that they set their minds to achieve.”

There will also be free games and activities throughout the day, including basketball, softball, ping pong, relay races, tennis and a dance competition. Something new this year is a Bible trivia contest, Bishop said.

The “Bible Trivia Bowl” is set for 1 p.m. and is open to youth from ages 13 to 18 years old. There is a maximum of eight members per team. The first-place prize is cash to the winning church youth department; there will also be second- and third-place prizes awarded.

Churches are invited to bring their teams of youth Bible scholars. To register a team, contact Dr. Bernard Bishop at (251) 577-1430, or Dr. Felicia Bishop at (251) 577-2635.

“We’ve invited all of the churches in the area to participate,” Bishop said. “Hopefully it will be something fun and new.”

All children must be accompanied by an adult. Because Stomp the Yard is an all-day event, everyone is recommended to bring a chair or umbrella.
