Escambia Academy’s Cougars remained undefeated and took over first place in their region Friday night, as they defeated Monroe Academy 16-8 in Canoe.

Monroe Academy was the defending state champion and defeated EA twice in 2013, but EA was able to get revenge Friday in front of the Cougars’ home fans.

Gordon Brooks had two short touchdown runs and Brett Gorum added a field goal in the second half.

EA led 16-0 before Monroe Academy scored its touchdown late in the fourth quarter. The Volunteers attempted an onside kick, but failed to recover.

Scott Brantley and Jamie Vaughan each had interceptions in the win.
