EA is also a champion off the field

Dear Editor,

The evening of Nov. 14 at the Escambia Academy football game, I met one of your reporters. He asked if I worked there and I informed him that I was a parent but I also volunteer when I can to help fix things when they break. There are a number of parents that do the same.

He asked why I chose EA. Well, it was simple; the word in town 10 years ago was that EA had a good reputation for good education, along with a Christian atmosphere. So, when my daughter was in the first grade at a local public school, there was a new standard — “No Child Left Behind” — that was enacted by the government. My daughter was the top reader and had a 99 percent average across the board, but was asked to sit and not do anything in class for 30 minutes of every hour in class, because she had finished her work and couldn’t bother the class and that they couldn’t give her extra work to keep her busy. I signed her out of public school and went to EA and have not regretted doing so.

Melissa is now in the ninth grade and the school has allowed her to perform at her top potential, along with her younger sister in the sixth grade, who started in EA’s K-5 program. The school pushed my daughters to read, write and speak properly at an early age, giving them an education beyond any child their age in public school. They have been recognized for reading, math, science, art, A/B honor roll and numerous athletic awards, along with other classmates.
Three and half years ago when my wife was told she had the worst type of breast cancer known to doctors today, my world was flipped upside down, as was my daughter’s. The family at EA supported my family through the whole ordeal, allowing me to take care of my wife during her treatment and surgeries.

Though I can never pay back their generosity, I want the whole EA family to know my wife and I love them and thank the entire faculty for an amazing job. Well done Cougars, you are the best.
