Devils win 7th straight county title

BREWTON — The Escambia County High School Blue Devils went 3-0 at the county tournament at T.R. Miller High School, earning a seventh straight boys title.

Chille Ford, Dexter Williams and Jerome Webster were the ECHS players named to the all-tournament team. Webster was chosen as the most outstanding player on the team.

The three victories improved ECHS’s record to 8-5 overall.

ECHS earned a 61-40 win over T.R. Miller on Saturday, and defeated Flomaton 73-35 on Friday. The Blue Devils opened the county tournament with a 75-56 win over W.S. Neal on Thursday.

In a battle of two 2-0 teams for the boys tournament championship, ECHS took it to T.R. Miller early Saturday, as the Blue Devils earned their seventh straight title with a 61-40 win.

ECHS led T.R. Miller 17-9 after one quarter and 39-19 at halftime, following a 22-10 scoring advantage in the second quarter.

Ten Blue Devils scored in the win. Devonté Lee led ECHS with 12 points, and Williams added 11. Ford finished with nine points and Malik McMillan scored eight.

ECHS boys 73, Flomaton 35

ECHS took a commanding lead in the first quarter and half, on the way to a 38-point win over Flomaton on Friday.

The Blue Devils led Flomaton 15-2 after one quarter and 30-8 at the half.

Ten Blue Devils scored in the win, with Marquis Brooks and Tristen Knott leading with 13 points each.

ECHS boys 75, W.S. Neal boys 56

Having four players score in double figures Thursday night was not enough for the W.S. Neal varsity boys against ECHS as the Blue Devils won easily, 75-56.

ECHS led W.S. Neal 23-19 after one quarter and 45-31 at the half after holding a 22-12 scoring advantage in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, ECHS edged out W.S. Neal 12-10 to take a 57-41 lead into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, ECHS outscored W.S. Neal 18-15.
