More than 70 people were evacuated from a mobile home park just outside Atmore on Saturday afternoon, after a bomb threat was reported in the area.

Escambia County Chief Deputy Mike Lambert said that deputies responded to the Big Oak Trailer Park on Jack Springs Road, after a man arrived with a pickup truck carrying “military grade devices.”

Lambert said that the devices included hand grenades and mortars. Deputies called for the evacuation and a bomb squad. Lambert said that bomb technicians came from Opelika and Mobile to investigate.

Jack Springs Road was closed from Poarch Road to 3 Mile Road for several hours, as the area was being secured. Lambert said the devices were destroyed, as a precaution.

Lambert said that the man who had the devices wanted to bring them home to see if anyone could tell him what they were. He said deputies searched the area where the devices had been found, but did not locate any others.

Jack Springs Road was re-opened to traffic about 7:30 p.m., Lambert said.
