Chili cook-off, chamber banquet soon

There are several important events planned in the coming days.

On Friday, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., the main branch of First National Bank & Trust will have a blood drive.
On Saturday, the second annual Chili Cook-Off will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., at Tom Byrne Park. All proceeds will benefit the Atmore Community Hospital, and used to purchase new smart pumps for the hospital’s I.V. dispensers.

Atmore Mayor Jim Staff said that event organizers have secured 24 teams for the cook-off, an increase of five teams from last year’s inaugural event.

There is no cost for admission, but tickets will have to be purchased to try the different varieties of chili. An “All You Can Eat” wristband will be $15, or patrons can purchase five samples for $7.

Tickets are available at Atmore City Hall, or at the event.

Also, Thursday, Feb. 26, will be the 69th annual meeting of the Atmore Area Chamber of Commerce. The meeting will be held at The Club, on State Highway 21 North. A social hour and silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the dinner will start at 6:30 p.m.

During the evening’s festivities, the Citizen of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award and Business of the Year will be announced.
