Former Escambia County High School and Escambia County middle school principal Dr. Zickeyous Byrd is slated to become superintendent of Conecuh County Schools. The Conecuh County BOE voted to hire him on March 4.

Byrd currently works as executive director of Montgomery Public Schools, and previously worked with the Alabama State Department of Education.

He stepped down as principal of ECHS in January of 2013. Before becoming principal there, he worked as middle school principal until 2010.

The Conecuh County school system has 1,500 students in schools. Byrd will fulfill the unexpired term of Ronnie Brogden, who recently retired. The current term ends in December of 2016.
