Firefighters battle a fire at 575 Jack Springs Road on Wednesday morning. Eight people were living in the house, but all escaped without injuries.

A fire Wednesday morning completely destroyed a home on Jack Springs Road.

Firefighters from a variety of agencies, including Atmore and Poarch, responded to the fire at approximately 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, at 575 Jack Springs Road. When the call was dispatched, the fire had fully engulfed the home.

Billowing smoke was visible in the sky from as far away as North Main Street, as firefighters battled to get the blaze under control.

Shanta Washington said that she was sleeping in her bedroom when the fire started in that room, but she was able to escape safely along with the other seven people living in the home.
