New businesses on North Main?

Atmore Mayor Jim Staff said that several new businesses may soon be on their way to North Main Street.

Already construction has begun on a concrete pad south of the Alabama Beverage Control liquor store. Staff said that location would be the site of a small strip mall with five offices, although he was unsure which companies might be renting the office space.

In addition, Staff said that nothing is official, but it is possible that Little Caesar’s and an AT&T store will be built on a site across the street, between Walmart and Atmore Realty.

“That’s what I’ve been hearing,” Staff said. “We have our fingers crossed that that’s what it’s going to be.”

Staff said that some citizens have also asked if the Walmart will be getting a Murphy USA gas station, or additional businesses on the inside of the store. However, Staff said that he talked with Walmart store manager Joe Ferguson, and such additions are not likely for a while.

“Joe said that they have to be in business for a year before Murphy or anyone like that can build on the property,” said Staff, who noted that Walmart opened in August 2014.
