Alabama State Troopers pursued a vehicle on a chase through northern Atmore on Saturday afternoon, arresting several suspects after the vehicle crashed into a utility pole near the intersection with North Main Street and Howard Street.

Glenn Carlee, director of public safety for the city of Atmore, said that Atmore Police Department officers were called to assist.

“Atmore police assisted the Alabama State Troopers on a pursuit situation on Highway 21 North, just after lunchtime Saturday,” Carlee said. “The vehicle turned left on Howard Street, which is a dead-end street. When the vehicle got trapped in the dead end, officers and troopers blocked the road, and the vehicle eventually crashed into a pole.”

Carlee said that troopers made multiple arrests on the scene, but added that he could not comment further because the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (which oversees state troopers) is leading the investigation.

“Multiple arrests were made, but we cannot comment further on the suspects or the type of charges,” he said.

Trooper Kevin Cook, a public information officer for the ALEA, said the troopers were assisting the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration with the incident, and deferred all questions to the DEA.

Messages left Tuesday with the public information department of the New Orleans Division of the DEA were not immediately returned.
