Ronald Peebles has been named Atmore’s new fire chief.

Atmore Mayor Jim Staff said that Peebles will serve as acting fire chief for the Atmore Fire Department, replacing the recently retired Gerry McGhee. Staff said that Peebles has already started working in his new position.

Peebles had previously served as a captain in the AFD. Peebles’ replacement for the captain position has not yet been named, Staff said.

“Ronald has been here for years and has done an excellent job for us as a captain,” Staff said. “He’s stepped in and started working as our fire chief and has hit the ground running. He’s got lots of knowledge and lots of experience.”

Peebles has been with the AFD for approximately 14 years.
