A Brewton man, wanted on escape charges, was located in Atmore on Saturday after wrecking his car on Woods Road.

Mykail DeShawn Johnson, 19, is also charged with resisting arrest and attempting to elude police after the incident.

Deputies noticed Johnson’s car — a black Chevrolet Camaro — abandoned on the side of Woods Road just after midnight Saturday. While attempting to locate the owner, the occupant of another vehicle stopped and identified Johnson as the car’s owner.

Deputies then learned Johnson was wanted on an active felony warrant for first-degree escape from a 2014 incident on a city of Brewton charge.

When deputies traveled through the area approximately an hour later, they observed Johnson attempting to move the car.

Johnson attempted to flee. However, with the assistance of police dog Ajax, he was quickly taken into custody.
