Albert P. McMorris

Albert P. McMorris, 81, of Atmore, passed away on Sat., Sept. 5, 2015, in Atmore.

He worked for the City of New York Parks Department as a park manager, retiring after 40 Years of service. He was born in Vicksburg, Miss. on Aug. 8, 1937, to the late William and Irene Smith McMorris. Albert was loved by everyone that knew him. He is best remembered for his amazing sense of humor.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Delaware McMorris, who passed away on Aug. 13, 2015.

Survivors are one son, Christopher (Denita) McMorris; one daughter, Teresa A. McMorris; one brother, James (Christine) McMorris; two sisters, Katie Frierson and Frances Hudson; three grandchildren, Mark Anthony (Antora) Padgett, Andrew Padgett and Courtney Thomas McMorris; one great-grandson, Ethan Pagett; and many Friends.

Services were held on Sat., Sept. 12, 2015, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmie Daniels officiating. The interment and graveside service will be held on Sat., Sept. 19, at 1 p.m. at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Long Island, N.Y.

Family received friends on Sept. 12, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home until the service time. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of all arrangements.

Carlton Anderson Smith

Carlton Anderson Smith, 78, of Canoe, passed away on Sept. 5, 2015, at his residence.

He was born on Dec. 22, 1937, in Megargel to the late Albert M. Smith and Lottie Chaudron Smith. He was a retired airman from the United States Air Force.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, James Marlon Smith, Albert Smith, Jr. and Gracie Mae Smith; infant sisters, Linda Annette Smith and Alice Jeanette Smith; and his special pet, Little John. Carlton expressed his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ every day.

He is survived by his brothers, Jacob O. (Voncile) Smith, Sr. of Pensacola, Fla., Gary Smith of Atmore and Carl (Peggy) Smith of Uriah; sisters, Luverne Smith Evans of Brewton, Doris Lowery of Milton, Fla., Carolyn Smith (Justin D. Sr.) Garrettt of Canoe, Marie Smith Lyles of Bay Minette and Ruby Smith Wilson of Perdido; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family and friends.

Funeral services were held on Thurs., Sept. 10, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating. Burial followed at the Barrancas National Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation was held on Sept. 9 from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Cassandra Renea “Cat” Arnold

Miss Cassandra Renea “CAT” Arnold, 26, of Atmore, transitioned to her Heavenly Home on Sept. 9, 2015, at Specialty Select Hospital in Pensacola.

Known by most as “CAT,” Miss Arnold was born in Detroit, Mich. and had lived in Atmore since the age of 12. She was a 2008 graduate of Escambia County High School. Her sweet loving spirit touched many who knew her and will be missed by her family and friends.

As she begins her Heavenly journey, she will join her mother, Elizabeth Nolen Arnold, her grandparents, great-grandparents and other family members in that Holy City.

Those who are left to cherish loving memories of her life are her father, the Rev. L.C. Arnold of Atmore; three sisters, Kimeko Arnold, Tanjanea Arnold and Faith Arnold, all of Atmore; two brothers, Lorenzo Arnold and Lawrence Arnold, both of Atmore; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Fri., Sept. 18, 2015, at one hour past high noon at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center, Peachtree Street in Atmore with Bishop Tony McAroy giving the eulogy, and Overseer Darryl North serving as host pastor. Inhumation will be in Fairview Cemetery with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC directing.

Charles Rodney Hall

Charles Rodney Hall, 60, of Atmore, passed away on Sept. 9, 2015, in Mobile.

He was born on Aug. 31, 1955 in Atmore.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Doris Hall; and two sisters, Lanell Cook and Shirley Diane Rushing.

He is survived by his daughter, Heather Hall; son, Christopher Hall of Atmore; one brother, Colvin Murph (Faye), of Bay Minette; six sisters, Carolyn Dees of Robertsdale, Nancy Roach (David) of Davisville, Fla., Bettye Hodges (Ken) of Pensacola, Fla., Sarah Ward (Mike) of Mobile, Rita Whatley of Atmore and Becky Holloway (James) of Odessa, Texas; and many other nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore on Mon., Sept. 14, 2015.

Graveside services were held on Sept. 14 at McCullough Cemetery. Bro. Mike Grindle officiated.

Jerry E. Johnson

Deacon Jerry E. Johnson, 88, a resident of Atmore, passed away on Fri., Sept. 11, 2015, at his residence.

He was a faithful and longtime member and Deacon of the Lighthouse Apostolic Holiness Church of Atmore.

Visitation will be held on Fri., Sept. 25, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. from the Chapel of Mayberry Funeral Home. Services will be held on Sat., Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. from the Lighthouse Apostolic Holiness Church with Apostle Robert Grissett serving as eulogist. Interment will be held in Fairview Cemetery. Mayberry Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Edna Luverne “Sis” Smith

Edna Luverne “Sis” Smith, 81, of Century, Fla., passed away on Tues., Sept. 8, 2015, in Jay, Fla.

She was a homemaker, born in Bratt, Fla., on Oct. 12, 1933, to the late Jack and Daisy Blanton Grimes.

She is preceded in death by siblings, Ed Grimes, Jerry Grimes, Joe Grimes, Tommie

Campbell, Emma Faye Grimes and Sylvia Moore.

Survivors are her husband, Curtis A. Smith of Century; one son, Curtis Edward Smith of Byrneville, Fla.; one brother, Johnny Grimes of Byrneville; one sister, Patricia (Cowboy) Turner of Flomaton; two grandchildren, Brandon (Deadria) Smith and Rachal Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Julianna, Samantha, Dalton, Braydon and Weston.

Services were held on Fri., Sept. 11, 2015, at 11 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Eric Bryan. Interment followed in Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Cemetery.

Family received friends on Fri., Sept. 11, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Juanita Ingram

Juanita Ingram, 85, of Atmore passed away on Sun., Aug. 30, 2015, in Pensacola, Fla.

She was a cook with Escambia County High School. She was born on Oct. 25, 1929, to the late Earnest L. and Annie Shirley White.

She was a member of the Presley Street Baptist Church.

Survivors are two sons, Ricky (Merilla) Ingram of Church Pt., La. and Randy (Melissa) Ingram of Atmore; one daughter, Rita (David) Lowery of Gardendale; one brother, Don (Diane) White of Robertsdale; seven grandchildren, Bo Ingram, Zach Ingram, Caleb Ingram, Cory Lowery, Evan Lowery, Jessica Ingram and Tyson Lambert.

Services were held on Sat., Sept. 5, 2015, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home chapel, with Bro. Willie Oglesby officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were her grandchildren.

Family received friends on Fri., Sept. 4, 2015, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Malcolm Andrew Jones

Malcolm Andrew Jones, 77, passed away peacefully at home on Aug. 31, 2015.

He was a native of Monroeville and a resident of Orange Beach for the past 24 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm “Mike” and Belle Jones and his brother, Wayne Jones.

Malcolm is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Patricia Tolton Jones; his sons, Steve Jones of Panama City Beach and David (Moira) Jones of Brewton; sister, Betty (Dee) Windham; brother, Harry (Georgia) Jones; sister in law, Frances Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

Malcolm donated his body to the University of South Alabama so no memorial service is planned.

Margaret Griswold Rogers

Margaret Griswold Rogers, 97, died on Wed., Sept. 9, 2015, at Atmore Community Hospital in Atmore.

She was a native of Bullock County. She graduated from Troy State Teachers College, now Troy University, majoring in elementary education. She taught school at Perote Elementary School in Perote, Ala., and at A.C. Moore Elementary School. After retiring from teaching, she spent her time volunteering at the hospital, senior center, lending a helping hand where needed and enjoying a good game of bridge. She was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church in Atmore.

Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her husband, John Aaron Rogers; her parents, V. F. Griswold and Enola Meriwether Griswold; and her brothers, John Lewis Griswold and Victor Fleming Griswold, Jr.

She is survived by her children, Betty Maxwell (Jim), Douglas Rogers (Marshall) and Jane Campbell (Jim); grandchildren, Emily Maxwell, Charles Bryan (Julie) and Layne Abee (Aaron); great-grandchildren, Jackson and Thompson Bryan and Conrad and Bella Abee; sister, Florence Griswold Evans; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held on Sat., Sept. 12, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Atmore with Dr. Debora Bishop officiating. Visitation was held in the Fellowship Hall of the church. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Methodist Children’s Home.

Myrtle Venelle Emmons

Myrtle Venelle Emmons, 83, of Atmore, passed away on Wed., Sept. 9, 2015.

She was a retired seamstress and clothing inspector, born in Monroe County, on Feb. 6, 1932, to the late Clem and Eva Jeter Stacey. She was a Loving mother and friend. She was a member of McCullough Christian Center.

She is preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters.

Survivors are three sons, Wayne (Stella) Rutherford, Rusty (Mandy) Emmons and Gary Emmons, all of Atmore; one daughter, Teresa “Terri” (Gary) Andersen of Atmore; one brother, Charles Stacey of McCullough; one sister, Jean (Thomas) Norwood of Frisco City; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren and many friends.

Services were held on Mon., Sept. 14, 2015, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Cornelius Phillips officiating. Interment followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Family received friends on Sun., Sept. 13, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
