United Fund fundraiser raises more than $13K

Atmore Mayor Jim Staff was arrested Monday morning at Anchor Café as a part of the United Fund of Atmore’s annual Lock Up fundraiser.

The annual fundraiser was held last Thursday at city hall, and organizers said more than $13,000 was raised.

United Fund President Brandy Giger said with the addition of Poarch Creek Indian’s donation of $10,000, the goal is almost reached.

“Our goal this year was $47,000 and I am confident that we will reach it by the end of the year,” Giger said. “I appreciate the hard work by not only our lock up participants this year, but my extremely dedicated board of directors.”

Last Thursday during the fundraising event, participants were “arrested” by Atmore Sgt. John Stallworth, who then transported them to city hall, where they were “booked” in jail. Each participant had to raise $1,000 to make “bail.”

Those who participated include: Mayor Jim Staff, Glen Davis, Tracey Miller, Sharon Brown, Don Davis, Hank Lee, Bub Gideons, Shane and Sheldon Harigel, Sydney McGhee, Brandon Smith, Deeya Seamans, APD Chief Chuck Brooks, Christopher Rowland, Chris Singleton and Judd Coley.

Stallworth took Staff into custody without incident Monday morning.

Those who would like to make a donation to United Fund, can send it to P.O. Box 823, Atmore, AL 36504.
