New memories will be made at Huxford Elementary as the country school installed its new playground last week.

The new playground replaces a space that held big tires and poles students played on for the last 26 years. The project to replace the old playground started in November.

Monica Buckhault, a PTO board member, said the students are excited to start playing on the playground.

“The kids love it,” Buckhault said. “They’re excited. They’re ready to get on it.”

Buckhault said J.A. Dawson out of Pelham installed the new playground.

“This is something new for a little old country school,” she said.

The playground is located behind and on the left side of the school.

Buckhault said through a grant, the playground cost $22,000.

“(J.A. Dawson) were a real good company to work with,” she said. “I enjoyed working with them.”

In order to get the funds required to pay for the playground, the school held its annual Fall Carnival, which is Huxford’s main fundraiser.

“That’s where we got the money from,” Buckhault said. “We’re going to have another little fundraiser in the spring so we can offset some of this cost.”

The playground has two big blue slides, a grey climbing wall, ladders and climbing spaces for the kids to enjoy.

Buckhault said the new playground will be the centerpiece for other installations that will come in due time.

“We are hoping in the future to add more to the playground,” she said.

Serving on the school’s PTO board other than Buckhault are President Cassie Lassiter; Vice President Jill Davis; Secretary and Treasurer Beth Parmer; and Board Member Dana Janes.
