Escambia Academy claimed the AISA Class 3A, Region 2 title with a 69-55 win over Pike Liberal Arts in Troy earlier tonight.

The Cougars (15-6, 5-1) scored 13 points in the first period, 17 each in the second and third, and 22 in the fourth.

EA coach Hugh Fountain said he was proud of the way the boys hustled.

“They played well and got after it,” Fountain said. “To be the area champions was one of our goals.”

Another goal Fountain said the team wrote down is to be undefeated at home. The Cougars host Crenshaw Christian on Monday before hitting the road to Greenville for the regional tournament at Fort Dale on Friday night.

With the win, EA secures a first-round bye at the regional tournament.

Tyler Sells led EA with 21 points; Blake Allen chipped in 14 points; Bradley Geck added 12; Kainoa Gumapac had nine points; and Fred Flavors had seven.
