According to Chief Chuck Brooks, the department responded to a disturbance complaint at 2:15 a.m. last Friday at 129 South Main Street.

“While responding to the complaint, officers were told that a firearm had been discharged in the area,” Brooks said.

Brooks said officers arrived on scene and learned that Anthony Jerome Riley of Sunset Drive, Atmore, had been shot multiple times with a firearm in the rear parking lot of the business, Special Occasions.

Brooks said witnesses at the scene described the offender as a black male who fled the area in a black Dodge Charger. The witnesses could not provide a license plate number, nor the identity of the shooter, he said.

“Officers learned that the business, Special Occasions, is licensed to hold banquets, wedding receptions and retirement parties,” Brooks said. “The business is not allowed to have alcohol on the premises, but evidence at the scene showed that alcohol was present at the time of the shooting.”

Riley was treated at Atmore Community Hospital and later transferred to a medical facility in Mobile for further treatment, Brooks said.

Those with information in regard to the shooting or the whereabouts of the offender need to call the APD at 251-368-9141.
