Atmore man charged in fall shooting

An Atmore man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that occurred in late November.

Atmore Police Chief Chuck Brooks said Douglas Oliver, 26, was arrested on Dec. 20, following an investigation into the shooting the occurred at Special Occasions on Fri., Nov. 25.

According to Atmore Advance archives, a man was shot multiple times with a firearm in the rear parking lot of the business.

Brooks said at the time that witnesses at the scene described the offender, who was later determined to be Oliver, who fled from the scene in a black Dodge Charger.

The victim, Anthony Jerome Riley of Sunset Dr., was treated at Atmore Community Hospital and later was transferred to a Mobile hospital for further treatment.

Upon his arrest, Oliver was transported to the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton.
