Construction workers poured 900 yards of concrete over a two-day period on March 23-24 for the foundation of Brown Precision LLC.

Maxwell Construction Co. is erecting the newest addition to the Rivercane Development, and President Richard Maxwell said workers started pouring the slab early on both mornings.

“We started pouring at 2 a.m. and finished at 8 a.m.,” Maxwell said.

Maxwell said the job required a concrete pump truck to help deliver the concrete over a wide area. The slab is 30,000 square feet (150-by-200 feet).

Maxwell said around 12 men helped pour the concrete.

“We also had a laser screed, which is a boom that is directed by a laser and supposedly levels the concrete,” he said. “It drags the concrete to a level point.”

Maxwell said the screed is usually used for larger pours.

As to what’s next at the site, Maxwell said the start of the build will begin on Mon., April 3.

“We’ll unload and start erecting the building,” he said. “While that’s going on, we’ll have a loading dock to build and smaller slabs to pour.”

Total time to erect the building will be 16 weeks, Maxwell said, adding that it’s a fairly slow process.

In the meantime, many tradesmen will be working on installing electricity and sewer lines to the site, Maxwell said.
