“We want to make this a day of love, and have one big gathering at Heritage Park again,” he said.

Last year’s walk included participants walking from city hall, down Presley Street, turning right on Craig Street and finishing at Heritage Park, where a rally was held.

The walk was held in large part due to the shootings in Baton Rouge, La., St. Paul, Minn. and Dallas, Texas, that rocked the country. Eight police officers were killed from shootings after two black men were shot and killed by law enforcement in a two-week period.

The Love Walk item was added to the meeting agenda and then approved by the council.

The next city council meeting is slated for Mon., June 12.
