When asked how long it’s going to take to put the fire out, Lambert said it’s going to take a few days.

He said firefighters can’t attack the fire because it will ignite further.

Since early this morning the portion of Highway 31 between Industrial Park Road and James Road has been closed, and will remain closed for several more hours.

Because of the closure, the Atmore Country Club had to shut down operations today.

Lambert said the country club has been great for the first responders on scene, adding that they have opened up the club so responders can recover from the excessive heat.

Lambert added that residents are asked no to travel in the direction of Tiger Sul, and to find an alternate route. The Alabama Department of Transportation has already posted an alternate route sign on Nashville Avenue, directing motorists to take Highway 21 to Interstate 65.

More information on this story will be posted later.
