Tiger-Sul’s Atmore plant is now open and warehouse operations have started, officials said Tuesday.

On Sat., July 29, during non-operational hours, a fire broke out at the plant. For most of the day, firefighters and first responders fought the blaze and the environmental effects from the release of sulphur dioxide in the air. Alabama State Fire Marshals are still investigating the cause of the fire.

“At this point in time, we have significant inventory available to take care of Atmore orders, and the Tiger team is working hard to meet customer orders and expectations,” Tiger-Sul Marketing Manager Usman Khalid said in an email.

Khalid said Tiger-Sul is the largest producer of sulphur bentonite in the world, and the company’s plants in Stockton, Calif., and Irricana, Canada, will both be used as needed to ship product to its customers in Atmore.
