JoJo Carpenter scored two touchdowns.

EA head football coach Hugh Fountain said he had to hold some of his players because they were battling the flu and bronchitis. He said this week the team will be in better shape when it faces the Mississippi team.

Last season, the Cougars lost 21-20 to Resurrection Catholic in a close contest.

Fountain said RC is similar this year to the way they were last year.

“They were very physical last year,” Fountain said. “We’re looking for them to be physical this year. Obviously, they’re always going to be good. You’re going to have to be able to bare down and stop their running game.”

Line play has been a point of emphasis for EA so far this season, Fountain said.

“I’m proud of the progression of the offensive and defensive lines,” he said. “We knew that was a question mark going into the season.”

Fountain said JoJo Nance, Tommy Dortch, Jabo Davis and John Wesley Hiebert have all done well on the defensive line.

As far as the offensive line, Fountain said he’s also been pleased with the line’s progress.

This week marks the Cougars’ first home game of the season.

Kick off Friday is at 7 p.m.
