The Escambia County Commission Monday awarded a $286,175 bid for work on the Freemanville Water System.
The project, which is funded through a state community development and block grant, will provide improved sewer service for residents, as well as water flow and add 1,500-foot of additional service lines.
The bid was submitted by Cardinal Contracting of Citronelle.
“We know the people at that end of the county will be pleased when this project is done,” Chairman Raymond Wiggins said.
Commissioner David Quarker, who represents the Freemanville Community, said, “These are much needed improvements. We’re going to add some six-inch lines and some new fire hydrants too.”
In other business, the commission signed a letter of support for a new industrial development alliance between Atmore and Monroe County.
