The Sound Star Search 2008 competitors ‘step it up’ weekly

The search for a star continues each Wednesday night as one competitor is eliminated from PCI Gaming’s The Sound Star Search 2008.
On Wednesday one more Star hopeful was knocked out of the limelight, narrowing the competition to six.
Megan Grayson of Cantonment, Fla., was the 18-year-old who missed her shot at becoming the winner of $5,000 and the opportunity to sign a contract with PCI Gaming to become a regular performer at the entertainment center’s The Sound stage.
“I wish I could’ve done better, but I’m really glad I made it this far,” Grayson said after Wednesday’s elimination.
Grayson sang two country songs during her last night at Star Search 2008, including Martina McBride’s “My Baby Loves Me” and Jo Dee Messina’s “Burn.”
The six remaining competitors include Atmore residents Ashley Dawn, Shane Harrell and Franklin Edward; Jay, Fla. resident Dew Pendleton; Kelton French of Molino, Fla. and Pensacola, Fla. resident Kristen Gronewold.
Wednesday night Dawn also sang two country songs including Gretchen Wilson’s “All Jacked Up” and Sugarland’s “Down in Mississippi.” Harrell also performed country tunes with Kenny Chesney’s “The Tin Man” and “Little Miss Honky Tonk” by Brooks & Dunn.
Edward added a little soul to the night with Terence Trent D’arby’s “Sign Your Name” and Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
Pendleton showed his sensitive side with “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right” by Billy Currington.
French included the audience when he performed two country hits by winking and sitting next to different crowd members.
While Gronewold sang “Respect” she impressed the crowd with her gymnastics skills as she performed a back flip.
Judges for the evening included Brent Pinkston, Catherine Timmons, Randal Adams, Emilie Mims and Billy Smith and they said each performer has improved weekly.
“You have really stepped it up,” Mims said. “You continue to get better and better and better.”
Adams agreed although he said the performers must find the “secret” to winning the Star Search 2008 competition.
“There is one secret to winning this thing and you’ve got to find out what that is,” he said. “But you were all great tonight.”
Each week master of ceremonies Chuck Stevens announces each competitor. The competition will be held each Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at the Creek Entertainment Center until a final winner is announced on March 1.
