Myers joins Advance staff
Staff Reports
After two months of not having a sports editor at the Atmore Advance, the position was recently filled with 22-year-old Chandler Myers.
Myers’ first day at the Advance was Monday and he said he is already enjoying the City of Atmore.
“My two days in Atmore have been great,” Myers said Tuesday afternoon. “I’ve met a lot of great people. Coach (Kyle) Davis is a really great guy and everyone at the paper is fantastic and really nice.”
Myers is the only child of Randy and Lynn Myers of Birmingham. He graduated from Clay-Chalkville High School in 2004.
After high school, Myers attended the University of Alabama. He graduated May 10 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in criminal justice.
Myers has a variety of experience with writing. Last year he worked for “Bama’s Ball Magazine,” which covered all Crimson Tide sports. He also worked for the University of Alabama’s student newspaper, the “Crimson White.”
Myers also has his foot in the door of radio. Every night he calls in to an Auburn radio station that his cousin DJs for and gives a “random fact.”
Atmore Newspapers, Inc. publisher Adam Prestridge said he looks forward to Myers working with the Advance staff.
“Chandler will be a good fit with the Atmore Advance staff and will work well with the community,” Prestridge said. “He is a people person with a lot of great ideas and enthusiasm to roll up his sleeves and get to work. His work ethic, knowledge of sports and character will help him to be successful as he begins his journalism career.”
Myers said he chose to accept the job at the Advance because he felt at ease on his interview.
“This is the best job offer I received and I was really comfortable when I came for my interview,” he said. “There wasn’t any pressure. It wasn’t too intense, it was just right.”
