Senior guard James Webster led the Escambia County Blue Devils to a huge 96-57 victory over the Flomaton Hurricanes Tuesday night at ECHS.

Webster finished the night with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in the victory. He also hit 8-of-13 shots for a shooting percentage of 61.5

Blue Devils head coach Anthony Hayes said Webster did a great job of playing his game and hitting important shots.

“James had an amazing night shooting the ball,” Hayes said. “He had a great game and really helped us in picking up the win.”

The Blue Devils (1-0) picked up the win with help from everyone on the team.

Hayes said beating Flomaton was important for the Blue Devils and added that starting off the season like that is always good.

“We needed this win,” Hayes said. “To get a win at home on opening night is always a great feeling and gives the guys even more confidence. It really helps a lot mentally.”

Junior forward Kingston Craft supported Webster’s numbers with monster stats of his own. K. Craft scored 16 points, grabbed four rebounds and served up three assists for the Blue Devils.

Freshman forward Dalvin Craft led the Blue Devils in rebounds with nine, grabbing six on the offensive end of the court. D. Craft also scored seven points and stole the ball twice.

Junior guard Eric Davis scored 10 points on the evening, while dishing out five assists and nabbing two steals.

Hayes said Davis showed leadership in managing the court for his team.

“Eric did a good job of managing the floor and keeping everything calm,” Hayes said.

The strong performance for the Blue Devils really showed up in the second half.

Hayes said the first half was slow for his team because they had to get adjusted to their opponents’ style of play.

“We came out sluggish in the first half,” Hayes said. “We didn’t execute how we wanted to, but the guys kept fighting and finally found their groove after some halftime adjustments.”

The win was a true team effort, according to Hayes. Thirteen players scored for the Blue Devils in the rout. Junior forward Lawrence Arnold scored 11 points for the Blue Devils and posted four rebounds and one steal. Senior guard Nik Radojicic scored seven points and had three rebounds. Junior forward Chris Walker netted seven points, five rebounds and one steal. Senior forward Dontae Johnson scored five points, grabbed two steals, one rebound and one assist. Senior guard Charles Crook scored six points and recorded three rebounds.

Junior guard Mark Watson scored four points, pulled down two rebounds and posted two assists. Senior forward Johnathan Gholsby had four points for the Blue Devils, with three rebounds. Senior forward Nate Davis scored four points, and grabbed four rebounds. Junior guard Rayvon Madison scored two points, with two assists and one rebound for ECHS.

Hayes said his team fought hard for their win and gave credit to his opponent for putting up a good game.

“This was a hard fought win no matter what the score said,” Hayes said. “We have to give Flomaton credit because they never stopped playing hard. It was a good ball game on both sides of the court.”

The Blue Devils next game is Nov. 28 against Daphne at Daphne High School.
