Wrangler's offers more than steaks

Good food and not fast food is something that Judy Lambert and her recently opened Wrangler’s Steakhouse rely on as they hope to please customers seven days a week with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Wrangler’s Steakhouse opened on Oct. 3 located at 2967 Hwy. 21 North next to Dixie Catfish and has been going strong serving their specialties, breakfast and steak along with a lunch buffet.

Lambert said that the clientele for Wrangler’s has grown everyday at all three meal times.

“The crowds have been getting better everyday,” she said. “Word of mouth has been good advertising for us. I knew if we served good food that people would talk about us, and it has really brought in a large crowd.”

Atmore’s newest steakhouse opens at 6 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. seven days a week.

Monday through Friday the breakfast that is served is off of a menu, but Lambert said a buffet is in the works for the Saturday and Sunday breakfast crowds.

Lambert said breakfast is one of the steakhouses specialties because it is her favorite meal.

“I’m a breakfast person, and I always have been,” she said. “There’s a need for a good place to have breakfast in Atmore, and I wanted to do something different, so that’s what we decided to do.”

One of the specialties and favorites at breakfast is the ho-cake, according to Lambert.

Lambert said a ho-cake is something that has been around for a long time, and used to be eaten by people on the trails.

“Cowboys on the trail would cook their bread on a skillet, which I call a ho-cake,” she said. “We do a good job of cooking ho-cakes here and serve it with tomato gravy. It’s been really popular.”

The lunch at Wrangler’s features a buffet with three meats and six vegetables along with homemade bread and desserts.

Lambert said she wanted to offer a buffet with several selections, so customers were not limited.

“A lot of the restaurants in Atmore only allow you two sides with one of them usually being fries or a baked potato,” she said. “We wanted to be different, so we wanted to offer our customers more meats and vegetables that they could choose from.”

The dinner specialty at Wrangler’s is a personally cut steak fit to please the customer.

Lambert said the steaks are not pre-cut frozen, but are cut at the steakhouse.

“Our steaks come in whole sirloins,” she said. “We cut them really well and cut them however the customer wants them. Being a woman, I like a thin cut steak compared to where most men like a thicker cut, so we cut them to please our customers.”

With so many meals to offer and a selection of specialties, the staff at Wrangler’s aims to serve their customers as much as possible.

Lambert said she has always lived by one motto.

“It might take longer when you come here to eat, but I have always believed in serving good food and not fast food,” she said.
