The Warhawks of Jefferson Davis Community College defeated Lawson State 121-116 in an overtime shootout Thursday night in Birmingham.
"This was a big conference win on the road against a good team," JDCC coach Allen Gainer said.
The Warhawks took a 45-41 halftime lead. At the end of regulation play the score was tied 103-103.
The Warhawks won the overtime period 18-13 and the game 121-116.
The Warhawks improved to 5-2 for the season and are three victories shy of tying last year's number of wins for the entire season.
Lamont Owens led the Warhawks with a game-high 37 points.
Joe Montgomery (33), Ellis Powell (19) and Scott Pughsley (10) scored in double figures.
Also contributing points were Chevy Coleman (9), Danny Hodges (5), Jonathan Little (3), Antonio Cook (3) and Preston Herd (2).
The Warhawks were scheduled to play Okaloosa-Walton (Fla.) Community College Saturday night.
According to Gainer, Okaloosa-Walton was ranked No. 9 in the nation in the latest junior and community college poll.
The Warhawks will then travel to Tuscaloosa Thursday to face Shelton State. Gainer was an assistant at Shelton State before taking over the Warhawk program prior to last year's season.
