Mr. Walter Mason Fuqua, 76, of Evergreen, La., died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, in Christus St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, La. He was a retired electrician and member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – Local #576.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; a daughter, Janet Dugas; three brothers and three sisters. Mr. Fuqua is survived by two sons, Robert Fuqua of Baton Rouge, La., and Alvin Fuqua of Lake Charles, La.; two daughters, Theresa Deprato of Baton Rouge and Nona Henagan of Evergreen; a brother, Herman Fuqua of Brewton; three sisters, Julia Lee Neese of Brewton, Frances Lorena Irwin of Lexington, S.C., and Beatrice Cook of Walnut Hill; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Melancon in Bunkie, La. Burial was in Bayou Rouge Cemetery in Evergreen.
Mrs. Jewell Harris, 81, of Tampa, Fla., and formerly of Anniston, died Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, in Vencour Hospital in Tampa. Mrs. Harris was a graduate of Cobb High School, Alabama A&M University in Huntsville and was a retired school teacher in New York.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Franklin Harris, and her parents, Sherman Sr. and Cora Levitt.
Mrs. Harris is survived by a daughter, Barbara Henderson, and her husband Williard of Tampa; a son, Ronald Harris of Rosedale, N.Y.; three sisters, Opal Mae Bonner and Pearl Turner, both of Anniston, and Cathryn Cole of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a brother, Sher-man Levitt Jr. of Detroit, Mich.; two granddaughters, Jocelyn Henderson and Jilliand Henderson, both of Tampa; a nephew, Louie Turner III of Atmore and several nieces.
Funeral services will be at noon on Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at Ervin Chapel of the Chimes in Anniston with the Rev. H.O. Buckley and the Rev. J.E. Merriwether officiating. Burial will be at Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston.
Pallbearers will be men of Haven United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Melvie Z. Seals House, 66, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, in Walnut Hill. She had been a resident of Walnut Hill for the past 50 years and was a former resident of Pine Orchard. Mrs. House was preceded in death by her husbands, William J. "Bill" Seals and Douglas House. She was survived by her son, Johnny Michael Seals and his wife Becky of Walnut Hill; five daughters, Sheila Lee and her husband Carl of Century, Janice Marie Hall and her husband Ronald of Brewton, Donna Jean Jordan and her husband Donald of Atmore, Lisa Laurie Hadley and her husband Matt of Walnut Hill and Evelyn Sheree Presley and her husband Gary of Atmore; a sister, Evelyn Parker of Cantonment; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call Wednesday, Dec. 8, between 6 and 9 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Orchard Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shane Seals, Joey McGugin, Bryan Jordan, Bert Porter, Bobby Porter and Gilbert Hall.
Mr. Theodore "Ted" Lewis, 50, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, in New Haven, Conn. Mr. Lewis was a resident of New Haven, Conn., formerly a resident of Atmore. Funeral services will be announced by Turner Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Lola Troutman Mason, 87, of Atmore, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at a local hospital. Mrs. Mason was a native of Robinsonville but had been a resident of Atmore most of her life and was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Mason.
Mrs. Mason is survived by a son, Paul Mason. and his wife Joyce of McKinnonville, Fla.; two daughters, Betty Ann Mason and Lanell Mason, both of Atmore; two grandchildren, Shane Mason Lee and Missy Mason Kindig; and two great-grandchildren, Colby Kyle Kindig and Garrett Mason Lee.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kelly Brown officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jim Van Pelt, George Van Pelt, Jim Spears, Jimmy Mason, Leon Troutman and John Garrard. Honorary pallbearers were her nephews and grand-nephews.
Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
Jon Daniel Sheets, 8, of Atmore, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999. He was a native of Escambia County and a resident of Father Purcell Memorial Exceptional Children's Center.
Master Sheets was preceded in death by his grandfather, Clyde Stokes. He is survived by his mother, Sonya Sheets, and his step-father, Billy Stokes, both of Huxford; two brothers, William Sheets III and Kenneth Ray Sheets; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Bobbie Corey; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mildred Stokes; and a number of aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Buddy Williams officiating. Burial followed at Poplar Springs Cemetery in Uriah.
