The last of the roofing work on Atmore City Hall is under way.
The bid of $86,480 was awarded to Amerson Roofing in May. Work started earlier this month and should be completed in January.
The job was actually bid twice. The first time, the bids came in over the architect's estimated cost.
The appearance of city hall will change when the sloped roof over the central portion of the building is complete.
Owens said the architect was trying to achieve two things – to improve the structure of the roof by changing from flat to sloped and to make an aesthetically pleasing design.
Owens said other plans include new light fixtures, ceiling tiles and paint.
The portions of the building over the auditorium, utilities department, police department and fire department already have been reroofed.
