Poarch Creek tribal members will choose from a field of 10 to fill three seats on the tribal council Saturday.
The terms of current Chairman Eddie Tullis, John McGhee and Buford Rolin are expiring.
All three incumbents are running to keep their seats at the council table. Other candidates on the ballot include Peggy Couch, Carolyn Davis, Lavan Martin, Daniel McGhee, Mal McGhee, Rodney McGhee and Terri Watkins.
Polls open at 8 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
But Election Day at Poarch is more than casting a ballot. It's a tribal homecoming.
According to the PCI Constitution, one-third of eligible voters on the tribal role must vote in order for the election to be valid.
To make the voting more convenient, tribal members could cast their ballots in "walk-in voting" if they so chose. Beginning May 4, voters could walk into the tribal administration office and vote. Tuesday, May 30, was the last day for walk-ins. In addition, absentee ballots were mailed out.
Tribal members and their families are invited to attend the day-long event.
A number of activities have been planned. A tentative schedule includes:
a rodeo beginning about 8 or 8:30 a.m.;
T-ball games at 10 a.m.;
dunking booth and moon walk set up mid-morning;
Red Cross bloodmobile set up about 10 or 10:30 a.m.;
gospel singing starting at 11 and lasting through 6:30 or 7 p.m.
Throughout the day, anyone who wants to participate is invited to join in softball and volleyball games.
Chicken and catfish dinners, hotdogs and refreshments will be available. All food, entertainment and activities are free to tribal members and their families.
