Mr. Charles Ellsworth Bosenberg, 84, of Atmore, died Saturday, July 8, 2000 at his residence.
Mr. Bosenberg was born in Carriere, Miss. He attended East Mississippi Junior College and the University of Florida before World War II.
He served in the Army Air Force during the war as a meteorologist in Tampa, Fla. where he helped establish the weather school and was the only instructor. He also taught at the Air Force weather school at Chanute Field, Ill.
After the war he worked for Gulf Power Company and completed his Masters degree at Florida State University. Post-graduate work was done at the University of West Florida.
Mr. Bosenberg was a teacher at Apopka Memorial High School in Orange County, Fla., Augusta Raa Junior High School in Tallahassee, Florida State University and Escambia County Junior High School. He served as principal of Division 9-10 at Escambia County High School for nine years and was assistant principal for two years after the schools were combined.
Mr. Bosenberg was a member of Atmore Lions club and a past officer, former president of Joy Riders senior citizens group, and an advisor for Boy Scout Explorer Post 26. He was a past member of Pensacola Masonic Lodge 42 with a 50 year membership pin.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a life deacon, choir member, Sunday school teacher and department superintendent.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Velma Carter Bosenberg; a daughter, Nancy Bosenberg Karrick of Atmore; a granddaughter, Nancy Colleen Karrick of Atmore; a brother, Keith Bosenberg of Tallahassee and two sisters, Ethel Nell Adkinson and Mary Alice Hicks, both of DeFuniak Springs.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 11 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Bro. Kelly Brown officiating.
Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pall bearers were Stanley Bosenberg, Fred Zuiderhoek, John Garrard, Gene Hall, Dr. Fred Crook and Gladyn Mothershed.
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
